Please be aware that there is a national shortage of the Hepatitis A Vaccination.
We currently have none in stock and our suppliers are unsure when the next stocks will be in. This supply problem is likely to go on until January at the earliest. Please note that you may be able to contact private clinics, however they may charge for this.

New Appointment System from January 2017.
We have had an exciting 12 months here at Birchwood with all sorts of changes enabling us to improve our services for our patients. We have taken on board feedback from you and our team and have been looking into our current appointment process and booking procedure.
With the renewed SMS service, the introduction of a DNA policy and the improvement on our telephone access, we felt it was the right time to implement a change to the setup of our clinics. Therefore, our Practice Manager, Zoe, was able to present a new proposal to the Birchwood Partners on how we could improve on the type of appointments we offer and when. We are pleased to inform you that the new clinic set up has been agreed and will take effect from January 2017!
We will now be offering the following appointments:
- 14 day pre-bookable appointments, which will be available both online and when booking with our Reception team, allowing you to book further in advance. This is something that patients have often requested. This will replace the current 7 day pre-bookable appointments.
- We have increased our telephone appointments from 2 appointments in the morning clinic to 4 appointments at the beginning of the afternoon clinic. This not only allows more appointments of this type, it will also allow a more efficient service to the patient by means of providing a smaller window of time for when the doctor will call.
- We will offer more Urgent on the Day appointments and have increased the availability on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays, our busiest days!
- Doctors Review appointments have now been added to the end of each clinic. This is to improve continuity of care. If during your appointment the doctor feels you need to be reviewed within a certain time frame, you will be provided with a slip to take to reception to make the appropriate appointment.
We sincerely hope this improvement will benefit all of our patients and ensure you receive the best service Birchwood can offer, however we would encourage you to continue to feedback any comments you may have to help us to continue improving our services.
From 1st May 2016 the Surgery introduced a DNA policy to reduce the number of appointments wasted due to non-attenders, by putting this Policy in place we hope to be able to provide more appointments to our patients. By informing the Surgery that you are unable to attend your appointment 12hrs before your appointment is due, allows us to re-offer this to another patient. With the SMS service and the policy in place we have started to see a deduction in our DNA figures and the figures for June 2016 were the lowest they have been since February 2014. We have dedicated staff assigned to working on our DNA figures and they have been trained to work with patients to re-educate and offer services that you may not be aware that exist and could help you with attending your booked appointment.
